Gen 5 Garrisons

Now we are well into Gen 5 heroes, a quick post to talk about garrison set ups and the importance of sending the right make up. As at Gen 5 there are a number of suitable garrison heroes that provide support to the leader. At full level 5 first skills:

TOP TIER

Saul - Increases defense by 10%, Health by 15%

Howard - Reduces Damages Taken by 20%

Fahd - Reduces Enemy Damage Dealt by 20%

Gordon - Increases Health by 25%

LOWER TIER

Hilde - Increases Attack by 15% and Health by 10%

Eric - Reduces Enemy Attack by 20%

Alcar - Reduces Infantry and Archers Damage taken by 70% every 5 turns for 2 turns

Thrud - Reduces damage taken by Infantry and Archers by 15%, increases damage deal by 15%

Long Fei - 40% chance to reduce all damage taken by 50%

A successful garrison requires the right mix of support based on the leader’s own stats. Its not a case of just sending 1 of the heroes and hoping, for more competitive battles a blend of the right heroes in support is the difference between losing or keeping the garrison. 1 of each of the top tier heroes in support gives a great mix of reducing how much attack power the enemy hits you with (Damage Dealt), how much of that attack power actually lands (Damage Taken), and how much that attack actually wounds or kills (Health and Defence).

The good news with Gen 5 is that the garrison setup has largely shifted to a 60/40/0 formation. 60% Infantry, 40% Cavalry, 0% Archers, and as we see above this is supported by a range of early gen heroes so this should be accessible for all as most have those heroes skills maxed by now. This allows almost all players to get involved in supporting the team at garrisons. Simply have a setup saved with 60/40/0, and no heroes. Save a second formation with 75/25/0 for topping up the garrison (again, no heroes) as this will help keep the ratio when topping up as more infantry will be injured in battle. Then keep an eye on the alliance chat, squad chat, or messages from the garrison lead to ensure you send the correct hero.

In a perfect world, with fixed teams at each garrison/rally, we would nominate the players to send the heroes the same every time. E.G.

Player 1 - Saul

Player 2 - Fahd

Player 3 - Gordon

Player 4 - Howard

Players 5-12 - no heroes.

By sending no heroes in the later players, if players 1-4 leave garrison its easy to call for player 5 to send the replacement march with the right hero as we know that hero will be home, this saves us juggling the joining order around.

Golden Rules - If you’re going to send to a rally, or a garrison, KEEP AN EYE ON INSTRUCTIONS! Do no send blindly, check for what is needed, send it, and then keep watching for further instructions as you may be required to recall to make space, or to switch your march for a hero etc. A garrison lead or R4 may also change the ratio or ask you to send something specific to help balance out the ratio. If you’ve sent a march and then don’t pay attention you can damage the teams chances of defending correctly.
